Will my hearing get worse without hearing aids?
If you do have hearing loss and choose not to get hearing aids then your hearing will progressively worsen. Although hearing aids are not a cure for hearing loss, they do slow down the rate at which your hearing worsens and can even prevent you from losing more of your hearing ability. Untreated hearing loss can cause other serious health conditions, such as cognitive decline, decrease in brain processing speed, and depression. In order to keep your overall well-being in check, it’s important to manage your hearing loss with hearing aids sooner rather than later.
Why can I hear sounds, but words are unclear?
Hearing loss affects the brain’s processing ability, so even though you may be able to hear some sounds speech will seem unclear or muffled. When you can’t hear well due to hearing loss then your brain loses its processing ability and has a difficult time understanding speech. Hearing loss usually isn’t an issue with volume, but with clarity. Hearing aids will provide you with the clarity you need to understand speech and hear the conversation clearly again.
Will I have to come back in for an appointment after I receive my hearing aids?
After the initial hearing aid fitting, we like to see our patient’s three days later. Our goal is to effectively and efficiently fit you with hearing aids that will provide you with the necessary amplification, clarity, and processing to improve your quality of life. During the first month of having your new devices we like to see you more frequently to ensure your hearing aids are performing well for you. This allows us to find any issues and to make sure they are programmed correctly for your hearing needs.
How long do hearing aids last?
Hearing aids typically last 5-7 years. When properly cared for, brought in for regular cleanings and maintenance they can last for many more years. Although, many patients like to upgrade around the 5-year mark so they can take advantage of the new technology and advancements. Our team has the expertise and knowledge to make any repairs on your hearing aids so you can wear them for many years to come.
How much do hearing aids cost?
Hearing aids are advanced minicomputers that will improve your quality of life by keeping your brain healthy and keeping you connected to the people you love. Although the cost of hearing aids can vary depending on the level of technology, the value of hearing aids is in how they will improve your life and health. We will work with your specific hearing needs and lifestyle and go over which level of hearing aid will best suit your needs. We also offer unique financing options to help you.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we will happily go over your insurance policy with you. To get the most out of your insurance and your hearing benefits, we recommend contacting your provider prior to your appointment. Call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask what hearing benefits and coverage you have. We will go over all of this with you when you come in but in order to have a better idea of what to expect we encourage you to call your provider ahead of time.
